Well Now

It's been a minute... or five, hasn't it? Oh my. Really, what else is there to say about it? The best laid plans of mice and men...

Well, welcome to June!

I have some goings on to let you in on, and even some new projects with photos to chatter about. So let's jump on in!

You may remember my mention of an idea for a double-knit hooded short cloak/cape that I was toying with getting on my needles.

Meet Céilí (kay-lee):
An in-progress piece of knitting in three colours: an azure blue, silvery grey, and cream. There is a knotwork panel, two round knotworks to either side and a smattering of stylized floral motifs. The piece resembles a hood that's been flattened and the knitting is contuing down from the base of the hood, fanning out as it grows.

As you can probably guess, the hood is finished, (and yes, that's an Estonian braid along the front edge of the hood), and I've picked up the stitches reversibly (a neat trick I unvented for my Hornpipe Bag) to continue the cloak body downwards. And there's shaping in between all those lovely pattern sections on the cloak portion. I'm absolutely enamoured with how it's coming along!

But of course I'm me and I don't have just one WIP on the go lol. Of my own designs, I'm most actively working on Three Hand Reel:
Photo of an in-progress 3 colour shawl. At the bottom is a garter stitch semicircle in a lime green. Directly above that is a slipped stitch stripe pattern using all 3 colours: lime green, lavender and hot pink. Above that is section of lavender open work, then another slipped stitch stripe section, then another of open work in the hot pink, and finally a slipped stitch strips section that's about a quarter to a third done.
(Talk about not losing me in a snowstorm lol)

and Cherish the Ladies:
An in-progress wrap being knit in the round on a 150cm circular needle. The yarn appears to be a darkish shade of green, and there are small pops of red where the beads have been placed. The details aren't obvious in this photo as it was taken to encompass the entirety of the work in progress.

Is my "go big" era as apparent to you as it is to me? ;)

I have another project in the works, and it's not on my needles ;)

After its success last year, the Clarenville Fibre Festival is coming back this August for its second year. And yours truly has signed on to teach a workshop! I'll be teaching beginner level cable knitting on Saturday August 22nd :) I'll be guiding between 5 and 10 individuals through the twists and turns of cable knitting. This is the first time I'll be teaching outside of a one-on-one situation so I chose to keep the class on the small side. I'm very excited for this opportunity, and a bit nervous I have to confess. But if my stage days taught me anything it's that when I'm not nervous is when I should worry.

I'll keep you informed of when signups are open and whatnot, so if you'll be near Clarenville, Newfoundland & Labrador this August, and specifically the weekend of August 21st through 23rd, and want to check out the Fibre Festival, and maybe a workshop or two, you'll know what's on the go and when.

That's my big news! And the projects that are keeping me out of trouble.

I'm off to Town next week for a dr's appointment (fingers crossed for better pain management solutions), so don't be surprised if there are touristy photos in my next post. I think Cherish the Ladies would look quite nice on the Newfoundland dog statue in Harbourside Park ;) Maybe I should hold off until the knitting's done and the steek cut open for that though. Three Hand Reel on the other hand...

I digress!

What's on your needles and/or hooks, fibre friends? Anything fun for summer? I'll be heading to Wool Trends while I'm in St. John's to see if I can find appropriate contrast yarn for Twillingate by Jennifer Beale🔗 (link to pattern page on designer's website) I have a lovely blue for the main colour or yarn for Plumeria by Wool & Pine🔗 (link to pattern page on their website). And just an FYI, Jennifer is a fellow Newfoundlander designer, and Wool & Pine patterns are the collaboration of Selena & Abbye, one of whom is in Vancouver, B.C., while the other is in Washington state. Still doing my part to promote small Canadian fibre arts businesses

Ok! That's honestly it this time lol

I remain, yours in yarn and general creative shenanigans,
Síle
